STREET CHILDREN IN COLOMBIA

More than 25,000 children live on the streets of Colombia. They have left their homes because the food within their poor families is not enough for all of them. Some of them have been abused or suffer from the quarrelling, drug and alcohol use of family members.
On the streets, the children try to survive by doing odd jobs like washing cars, selling cigarettes, recycling rubbish etc. to earn some money or stealing the bare necessities. Most of the girls who live on the streets fall victim to prostitution at a young age.
The children search for sleep on the pavements of Colombia or hide in abandoned corners and houses. Many among them become addicted to cheap drugs like glue or petrol. Without education and support, the abandoned street children have hardly any possibilities to get out of this situation.
